South Yorkshire police have re-bailed a man in relation to the death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson.
Police have extended bail until January 20 2025 due to the investigation having “unprecedented circumstances”.
In November 2023, a man was originally arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after Nottingham Panthers player, Johnson, suffered a fatal neck injury from a skate during a collision with a Sheffield Steelers’ player.
Bail extension will be considered again by police in January 2025 as the complex investigation remains ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Benjamin Wood said: “Our thoughts remain wholeheartedly with Adam’s family at this time”.
The game between Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers in October last year was brought to a halt after the incident and Johnson was later pronounced deceased in hospital.
A post-mortem examination confirmed the 29-year-old died as a result of a fatal neck injury.
An inquest into Johnson’s death was opened and adjourned on in November 2023.
