The January transfer window has shut. Find out who was on the move across the Women’s Super League…
Chelsea have agreed a Women’s Super League Deadline Day deal to signEngland midfielder Keira Walsh from Barcelona.
Negotiations were concluded on Thursday morning and a fee of around £400,000 agreed. Walsh will have a medical in London and a deal is expected to be concluded.
Walsh’s Barcelona contract ends in the summer and she was keen on a move back to the WSL.
Arsenal have announced the signing of United States defender Jenna Nighswonger from Gotham FC.
Coming in on transfer deadline day, the 24-year-old left-back, holder of 18 caps, is the first new addition to the Gunners’ squad since Renee Slegers was confirmed as head coach on a permanent basis on January 17.
Nighswonger said: “I’m so happy to be here. I’ve always wanted to play in England and joining such an historic football club is a dream come true.
“I want to win trophies with this club and help the team in any way possible. It’s an incredible feeling to be able to call myself an Arsenal player and I can’t wait to get started.”
It was a very busy day for the Gunners as Chloe Kellyjoined on loan until the end of the season from Manchester City after completing a dramatic move on WSL Deadline Day.
Manchester United had also been in the running to sign the 27-year-old before Thursday’s 11pm deadline, but Kelly has moved to the Gunners, where she started her senior career.
Kelly’s preference was to stay in Manchester, which is why she turned down the chance to sign for Brighton earlier in this window.
Heading in the other direction, Laura Wienroither has joined City on loan for the rest of the season.
The 26-year-old Austria international said: “I’m really happy to be here and relieved that everything is done now.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with people who have trust in me and believe in me.
“I just hope I can give the trust back and I’m really excited to get started.
“When you have the chance to sign for a big club I don’t think you have a lot to think about – at least I didn’t. I’ve always had a soft spot for Man City.”
Crystal Palace have signed Jamaica centre-back Allyson Swaby from AC Milan for an undisclosed fee.
Swaby, who has played top-flight football in the United States, France and Italy, joins the Eagles on a contract until June 2027.
Palace also completed the loan signing of Netherlands international Aniek Nouwen from Chelsea.
Leicester have signed Iceland forward Hlin Eiriksdottir. The 24-year-old arrives from Swedish side Kristianstads DFF for an undisclosed fee and has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.
She will link up with her new team-mates ahead of Leicester’s WSL clash with Everton on Sunday.
